What is a pilgrimage?
A pilgrimage is a journey a pilgrim makes to a sacred place for the purpose of venerating it or to ask for heavenly aid, and ultimately to come to know God better.
You and i as Christians are currently on a journey of life whilst travelling through a series of chapters in a way to connect with Mary.
A pilgrimage is not a holiday; instead it is a transformational journey during which significant changes take place. Psalm 84:5 - "Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage” highlights the importance of Pilgrims.

The journey will develop life giving challenges and the pilgrim is aware of this. Our Lady of Lourdes is accepted by all walks of life including both the young and the old. Pilgrimages are significant because pilgrims live out their Christian values and convey many new experiences whilst walking in the footsteps of Jesus. Along the journey, there are many sacrifices involved. There is suffering, hunger, pain, exhaustion, extreme weather conditions and crowds. All of these involve self-discipline in order to reach the ultimate goal and reach the final destination.
Other significant pilgrimages besides Our Lady Lourdes include Fatima, Medugorje, Guadalupe and Mary’s House – Ephesus
